In order to submit assignments in the Dropbox folder,

A. You need to be in the Faculty of Architecture network, or

B. You can upload your file/folder from home, via FTP.

* Note: Once your file/folder is copied into a Dropbox submission folder, you cannot overwrite your own file, nor anyone else's. You also cannot read or copy other student's submitted files. You can however, re-submit your files by renaming it à la iteration.

** Tip: If you have several files to submit at once, it is better to create a new folder and rename it to your username, and then put these files into this folder. Then you can copy this folder over to the designated Dropbox.

* Via Windows Internet Explorer:

(Step A) Open up Windows Internet Explorer Browser from START>Programs>.

(Step B) Type into the Address Field:

ftp://dropbox.arch.usyd.edu.au

(Step C) When challenged for a name/password, type:

Username = ARCH\username (make sure you add the prefix ARCH\ before your username)

Password = (your architecture password).

* Via Windows Explorer:

* Via Apple OSX (on the Faculty LAN Network):

(Step A) If your computer is connected to our Faculty LAN Ethernet connection, then you can directly connect to the DROPBOX via the SMB protocol. That way, you can access the Dropboxes via the Finder browser.

Connect your computer to our LAN Ethernet.

(Step B) Click on a blank area of your Desktop screen.
Then from the Menu bar, click on "GO" >> "Connect to Server.."

(Step C) Type in the following details into the dialog box:

Server Address = smb://dropbox.arch.usyd.edu.au

Then click on the [+] button to add it to your favorites (note: you only have to do this once on the same computer).

Then click on the 'Connect' button.

When challenged for name and password, type:

Workgroup/Domain = ARCH
Username = yourARCHusername
Password = (your architecture password)
.

After this, there is a pulldown menu to choose a network folder to Map to; select "Dropboxes".

(Step D) There will now be a new icon on your Desktop, which is a Remote Folder connection to DROPBOXES.

From here, you can continue to access it like any other Folder (depending on your access privilege level).

* Via Apple OSX (with 3rd party FTP client):

(Step A) Install the recommended 3rd party FTP client freeware program called "CyberDuck".

Download it from http://cyberduck.ch/

Then follow the software instructions to install it onto your System.

Please get familiarised with using the Cyberduck interface from its Help menu and also from the Software's website guides.

(Step B) Type in the following details into the FTP client software interface:

Server = dropbox.arch.usyd.edu.au

Protocol = FTP (File Transfer Protocol)

Protocol = FTP (File Transfer Protocol)

Username = ARCH\username (make sure you add the prefix ARCH\ before your username)

Password = (your architecture password).

 (Step C) Then just choose the "Dropboxes" folder to access it.

* Via Windows (with 3rd party FTP client):

  1. Load up an FTP client program on your system.
    You can get shareware/freeware copies of FTP clients to install on your own computer from the Internet, such as CuteFTP, WS_FTP, etc.
    We recommend WinSCP ( http://winscp.net/eng/download.php ); it's freeware, and it supports SFTP, as well as FTP.

  2. Put the following details into the FTP client:

    Server Host name = dropbox.arch.usyd.edu.au

    Protocol = FTP (File Transfer Protocol) <--- !! Make sure it is FTP, and NOT sftp !!

    Port = 21

    Username = ARCH\username (make sure you add the prefix ARCH\ before your username)

    Password = (your architecture password).

  3. (Leave all other information as default, if you are uncertain of other Preferences).

  4. Once the FTP client connects to the server, you will have a new window. The left column typically shows your computer's Local directory, whereas the right column typically shows your Remote directory ( in this case, its the Dropbox Folders ).

  5. Select all the folder or files you wish to upload from the Local directory side, and drag-n-drop them to the Remote directory side. This will immediately start the transfer of the files. ( Likewise, it is typically the same process with most FTP client GUI software when transferring files from the Remote directory onto your computer's Local directory ).

* Via Windows Lab machines at Faculty:

(Step A) Log on to the labpc with your Architecture account name and password.

(Step D) Drag your own submission file/folder, and drop (copy) it into the appropriate Coursework Folder.

* Note: Once your file/folder is copied into a Dropbox submission folder, you cannot overwrite your own files, nor anyone else's.
