| 2006-07-08 | Access to external sites for lab machines is now done through university proxy. You will have to enter your extro username and password, and will be charged for internet traffic. This will occur until the beginning of semester 2. |
| 2006-06-16 | Due to assignments being handed up tomorrow, the maintenance period will start at approximately 5:30pm |
| 2006-06-15 | I need to apply some critical updates to the equipment that serves home directories and the faculty internet. I will use the Friday downtime window to do this. Tomorrow at around 4pm I will apply the updates. Home directories, faculty web pages and external web pages will be unavailable at this time. Shake will also be unavailable. |
| 2006-06-07 | Some web sites and home directories would have been unavailable from around 2pm this afternoon. This is being fixed and all sites and home directories should be up by around 8pm. |

| 2006-05-23 | Z: drive now working in the computer labs. |
| 2006-05-21 | We will be restoring Z: drive access Tuesday morning. In order to do this, we will need to bring the file server down from 9pm Modnay 22nd May to 5am Tuesday 23rd May. There will be no access to your Unix home directory and you web sites during this time. Access to log in and all applications in the computer labs will be available, though there may be short disruptions from time to time over this period. |
| 2006-05-12 | To access your unix home drive use ftp within the uni, or sftp as explained at the following URL: http://helpdesk.arch.usyd.edu.au/faqs/faqs.php?id=12 OR log into the G5 lab, that mounts your unix home drive on log in. The Z: drive on PCs is unavailable until further notice. |
| 2006-05-12 | some interruption to smb services (your Z: home drive) on PCs throughout the day today, as we are having security issues with a hacker creating Denial Of Service attacks on our server.
You can connect to your home via FTP from within the university LAN, and SFTP from anywhere. If you log into a G5 in the mac lab, your home directory will be mounted automatically. This has not been effected.
|
| 2006-05-12 | Have had to turn off FTP on our server for security reasons. Please use SFTP. Instructions on how to do so are available on our FAQ.
|
| 2006-05-07 | Personal web pages were down and home directories were unavailable on the weekend. We have restored services, and will be working on a solution to this recurring problem over the next week. A notice will be posted on the site to indicate wether we can declare these services relible. |
| 2006-05-05 | There are problems logging into the G5 lab on level 2 at present. We are working on it, and should fix it by the end of the day. Please use the DM account in the mean time. |

| 2006-05-04 | I have recently fixed running CGI's on your web page. Place all .cgi or .pl scripts in docs/www/cgi-bin/ in your home folder. |
| 2006-04-24 | There were some probems with login access for FTP, computer labs and personal web page availability over the weekend. We are dealing with this issue and it is mostly fixed at this stage, we just need to run some tests. Please be patient with any downtime in the above services if they occur and retry in an hour. |
| 2006-04-05 | Our Survey page has been re-instated. This is a place for you (staff/student/researcher) to give the ICT services your comments, feedback and suggestions. |
| 2006-03-28 | NEW FAQs system in place. This new system is easier to navigate. All FAQs are up-to-date with current information about logins, printers, WWW, accounts, etc. |

| 2006-03-09 | There have been some problems with people being set to have a quota that was too small. This caused problems for people copying files to their home directories. This should be fixed now. |
| 2006-03-07 | Students login in for the first time will be promtp to change their passwords.
|
| 2006-03-02 | Proxy services were down last night so some staff and PHD students may have

|
| 2006-02-25 | Please note that email is down till 6pm today due to work going on at Central.
Also:
Your home directories have been moved, and so accessing your home directories/web sites should only be done from the aliases for the services provided. These are
ftp.arch.usyd.edu.au - for FTP and SFP
smbhost.arch.usyd.edu.au/homes - for connecting to your home drive using samba
Please note that these aliases were previously pointing to the server called lisa, and I have only just changed it to point to the correct server. The pointer takes a while (may be 4 or 5 hours) to refresh, so it should work by the late afternoon.
The server called Lisa is no longer in use for architecture services, and now is wholly in charge by the people who got the academic grant that funded it.
If you did any FTP yesterday (Kirsty B), then you will need to do this again to the server names above after 5pm or so.
Sooner or later FTP will be depreciated in favour of SFTP which is available now. SFTP works the same way, but is encrypted so is far more secure. I find it faster too. |
| 2006-02-11 | Lisa may run slowly today, as I am restoring a large amount of data over
the network. It should be finished by mid morning. This will effect the faculty web page and home directories. Email jason@arch.usyd.edu.au if this is a problem. |
| 2006-02-10 | Computer lab access is only availabe from the DM lab (level 2 lab of 20 PC machines) using your accounts on the Arch domain. You can still use the DM account.
We hope to get this fixed today so you can print from the other labs. |
| 2006-02-09 | Prior to 2006 Semester 1 start, all Undergraduate and Postgraduate students' Architecture Login Accounts are currently being regenerated on our Database Systems. You will be notified via your Uni Email once your account has been created with further instructions. |
| 2006-02-03 | Systems are back up now, though there are some DNS issues which may stop emails from being sent internally to @arch addresses from your mail client. You should still be able to send all messages from http://www-mail.usyd.edu.au. This should be cleared up by Saturday morning. Sorry for any inconvenience. |
| 2006-02-02 | The Unix homes directories will be unavailable for the next hour or so (from 11:30am ). If you have already logged on, then it will work until you unmount the volume or switch off your computer.
Sorry for any inconvenience. |
| 2006-01-16 | Please do not open attachments on emails claiming your architecture account is about to expire. These mail attachments are viruses. |
| 2006-01-13 | Downtime on Friday took longer than expected. Services were down between 4pm and 10:30pm. Please note that Friday evening from 4pm is high risk computing. It is a time when services may be down at any time for maintenance. |
